The Chair was established on September 16, 2002 in accordance with the Agreement between UNESCO and the International Research and Training Centre for Information Technologies and Systems of National Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education and Science.

Chair holder:NASU corresponding-member, Professor Vladimir Gritsenko.

The main objective of the chair: the development of the theory and practice of information technologies in education, knowledge dissemination with the assistance of the international educational and scientific community, participation in the coordination of staff training and research in the field of information and communication technologies for education and science.

Chair activity: holding activities within the overall coordination of UNESCO's Programmes Education for All and Information for All and the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) decisions, aimed at creating national information and educational space, highly economical computer training technologies, teachers training in the field of information and communication technologies both for Ukraine and for developing countries.

In 2019, coordination activities of the UNESCO Chair are concerned with expansion of the Information for all UNESCO Program towards efficient use of ICT to attain the sustainable development goals in life-long e-learning, information space, and knowledge society.

In 2013 the 100th anniversary since the birth of academician Alexei Ivakhnenko (March 30, 1913 October 16, 2007) has being celebrated. He is the founder of the inductive modeling scientific school as well as the author of the well-known method for group accounting of arguments (MGAA).

On December 6, 2013 marks Nikolai Mikhailovich Amosovs - 100th anniversary, who was an outstanding scientist in the field of medicine and cybernetics, the Hero of Socialist Labor, Laureate of Lenin and State Prizes, academician of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) of Ukraine.
